Start at: Eyes Meadow Car Park by Duffield playing/sports fields, next to Duffield Millennium Meadow. Head for St Alkmund's Church, close to the Bridge Inn pub on Church Drive. As you approach the church, follow the road around between the two church car parks to Donald Hawley Way, which runs parallel with the railway line. At the bottom of this Way the car park is on the left across from the nature reserve.

Please park at the free car park behind the shopping precinct, accessed via Scargill Road and Nursery Avenue, leaving roadside parking at the hall for less mobile members attending the AGM. Slight to moderate climbs and descents, 2 stiles, village footpaths, meadows and farm tracks, mainly good underfoot but may be muddy in places. Walk followed by lunch at village hall; please bring your own. Tea, coffee and cakes provided. AGM starts at 1pm, all members invited; meeting generally lasts around 30 minutes. Please help with clearing chairs and tables after the meeting.

Walk postponed in January due to local flooding.

From the car park along the river embankment to Sawley Bridge, then onto Horseshoe Bridge and in and around the Easton side of Shardlow. Return via fields to Sawley Bridge, across the golf course to the Erewash Canal and Trent Lock. Distance subject to the final return route taken. Dogs on tight leads due to the cycle route. Possible mud in fields depending on weather. No toilets.

Our walks are not at all rushed, and there is always a stop for a coffee or drink, so please remember to bring a flask or other drink with you. All our longer walks will also include a stop for lunch, so carry a pack-up with you too. We do not normally arrange for a stop at a pub or cafe during our walks.
Please make sure that you are suitably dressed and capable of joining our walks - some of them can be hard work if you are not a regular walker. We reserve the right to refuse to take anybody who, in the walk-leader's view, may not be able to safely accompany the group - this has never happened yet, but it is still in the small print.
As with all Ramblers groups, our walks are open to everyone. If you are not a member, don't worry - just turn up at the meeting point and you will be made most welcome. If you decide you do like walking with us, then we would ask you to become a member of the Ramblers after you have been on two or three walks.
Non-walking members are welcome to join us at the end of any walk that starts at a Pub or Cafe to socialise.
Dogs are welcome on our walks, but on a standard short lead, please.
We are a local group of The Ramblers,
based in south-east Derbyshire, established in 1981. We organise group walks in the
local area and beyond, lead by experienced walk leaders. We are a friendly bunch of like minded
people who enjoy the many benefits of walking in the open air. Our Footpath Secretary and Wardens work diligently to monitor and do minor cutting back on footpaths to help maintain Rights of Way in the Erewash area.
