Returning via the famous Anchor Church. The Swan Inn is Ramblers friendly and walkers have enjoyed a drink there in the past after using the car park.

From library car park to Risley area then uphill to Stanton by Dale, through the village then down to Stanton industrial area continuing along to water marshes near Sandiacre and then return to car park. May be muddy. Dogs on tight lead where required. No toilets. Some hilly bits.

From this new start point the walk follows the banks of the Shardlow dykes towards Church Wilne, then along the riverbank to the canal with its lock gates. Flat walk with 8 stiles. Sheep may be present in a couple of fields. Grass was long in places and some paths narrow due to overgrowth at the pre-walk, so suitable footwear and clothing are advised if there has been heavy rain. Permission given to park at the pub; please use the large bottom area of the car park. Toilets should be available before the walk. A seating area has been reserved after the walk for anyone staying for a meal or drink.

From the car park heading towards the River Erewash along the Trent embankment footpath, eventually routing past the former Trent Junction railway station area, then back across fields to the start point. Some road walking, footpaths and tracks. Generally level. Dogs on tight leads due to cycle routes. Possible mud in fields depending on weather. No toilets. Walk postponed in January due to local flooding.

Our walks are not at all rushed, and there is always a stop for a coffee or drink, so please remember to bring a flask or other drink with you. All our longer walks will also include a stop for lunch, so carry a pack-up with you too. We do not normally arrange for a stop at a pub or cafe during our walks.
Please make sure that you are suitably dressed and capable of joining our walks - some of them can be hard work if you are not a regular walker. We reserve the right to refuse to take anybody who, in the walk-leader's view, may not be able to safely accompany the group - this has never happened yet, but it is still in the small print.
As with all Ramblers groups, our walks are open to everyone. If you are not a member, don't worry - just turn up at the meeting point and you will be made most welcome. If you decide you do like walking with us, then we would ask you to become a member of the Ramblers after you have been on two or three walks.
Non-walking members are welcome to join us at the end of any walk that starts at a Pub or Cafe to socialise.
Dogs are welcome on our walks, but on a standard short lead, please.
We are a local group of The Ramblers,
based in south-east Derbyshire, established in 1981. We organise group walks in the
local area and beyond, lead by experienced walk leaders. We are a friendly bunch of like minded
people who enjoy the many benefits of walking in the open air. Our Footpath Secretary and Wardens work diligently to monitor and do minor cutting back on footpaths to help maintain Rights of Way in the Erewash area.
