Brian's coffee and cake morning for the Macmillan Fund

Due to the awful weather on Wednesday, the number of walkers was considerably down. 11 people walked to our house including some from Long Eaton Rambling Club, a further 12 walkers who would have walked had it not rained, came by car and another 7 Erewash Ramblers who no longer walk with us also came by car.

We also had 14 friends and neighbours, including 2 more Long Eaton Ramblers, making 44 in total. Including the £33 from sale of hand made cards previously, we have raised £388 so far, which I think is a very acceptable amount under the circumstances. Thanks to you all.

Thanks go to Sara, Joyce, Sandra, Brenda and Alan for the cakes. Thanks go to Sue for leading the walk, Alan for the photos, to Mavis and Mary helping to serve and Mary for loan of hot water boilers and teapots.

SPECIAL THANKS GO TO SILVIA WHO HELPED ME FROM 9-00am. Helping me putting up the Gazebo IN THE RAIN, setting all the tables, serving Tea and Coffee etc. Washing up and clearing away towards the end of the day. I couldn't have managed without you Silvia.

Many Thanks Again

Kind Regards Brian

UPDATE - Autumn Footprints Walking Festival 2023

The 2023 Autumn Footprints Walking Festival is taking place this year without, unfortunately, the participation of Erewash Ramblers.

There are, however, plenty of walks to enjoy over the next sixteen days with full information at www.autumnfootprints.co.uk.

Bonsall Walk, 24th Sept, 2023

The walk from Bonsall is quite challenging, but the views are spectacular. Climbing from the start, level then climb, level then climb etc. for the first hour, then downhill to Wensley and it's Dale, Oker and Matlock.

The climb out of Matlock (the limestone way) is similar to the Bonsall but worth it for the views.

I did the walk today (Saturday) the hottest day of the year so far. I hope to see some of you on this walk regardless of the challenges.

If anyone wishes to carshare with me, I have two spare seats in my car at the moment. Either meet at my house in Draycott or at Duffield Church at 9-40am. Give me a ring on 01332 873849 to arrange it.

Alzheimer's Walk

I managed the walk today in quite a fast time, 5.25 hours including an approx half hour lunch stop. Almost 3miles an hour.

The organization was very well put together. Free drinks and sausage or bacon cobs etc. at start and sandwiches, crisps, health bars and drinks at lunchtime.

There was 530 on the 26 mile walk and 700/800 on the 13 mile.

There was a 8-50am, 9-10am, and 9-30am start for our 13 miler. Each group was split into groups of about 50 about 5 minutes apart. No holdups anywhere.

Medal and a glass of Prosecco at the finish and more tea coffee available, all for free.

I was walking for just over £300 with more promised.

Many Thanks to all who sponsored me, I do appreciate it.

Autumn Footprints Walking Festival 2023

The Autumn Footprints Walking Festival 2023 is only Amber Valley Council and areas this year because Erewash Borough Council will not be funding it. Therefore all walks have to start/finish in Amber Valley so there will no walks in the Festival lead by any of our leaders.

It's a sorry state of affairs after all these years ( approx 20 ) and I fear it's a downward spiral.

The walks I and Brian Bennett had already planned for the Festival and submitted to Alan and Mark etc. which are not in Amber Valley, will go ahead as planned but NOT in the Festival.

They are:

Saturday September 16th, Shardlow led by Brian Bennett

Monday September 18th Blue Bells led by Brian Marshall

Also, Wednesday, September 20th, Breaston Macmillan Charity Coffee Morning Walk. Please note this will be the last Macmillan Walk to Lime Grove, Draycott because of Jane's health problems.

Thanks for all your support in the past Festivals over the years.

Brian Marshall.

Autumn Footprints Walking Festival 2023

It's that time of the year again. Marion tells me it's looking likely that The Autumn Footprints Walking Festival is going ahead again in September for 2023.

If anyone would like to lead a walk in the Festival on any of the following dates, I will be able to provide the relevant paperwork in due course. I will of course help with filling in forms and Risk Assessment forms if required.

Walks must start and finish in Erewash.

  • Sunday 10th September
  • Wednesday 13th September
  • Thursday 14th September
  • Saturday 16th September
  • Sunday 23rd September

If anyone is interested, please let me know. If not I will take care of some of the dates.

I have already booked Monday 18th September and Wednesday 20th September.

Erewash Walking Week 2023

After last year's success we are taking part in Erewash Borough Council's Erewash Walking Week again this year which runs from 10th to 16th April inclusive.

We have 3 of our own Erewash Ramblers walks scheduled for that week which we will include in the festival.

Brian Marshall has volunteered for the Wednesday 12th at Breaston so we are looking for leaders for Thursday 13th and Saturday 15th April.

If you are able to lead a walk please forward details to the Programme Secretary, Publicity Officer or any committee member in the next week or so as the Council have to print programmes and publicity material well in advance of the event.
